There are a variety of closed cell foams, they range from:
  • Polyethylene
  • Neoprene
  • PVC
  • EPDM
  • Various Rubber Blends

Closed cell foams do not absorb fluids or moisture, which make them well suited for sealing, gasketing and insulation. Numerous applications include:
  • Medical Packaging
  • Surgical Drapes
  • Anti-Rattle
  • Insulation
  • Floor Underlayment
  • Floatation
  • Case Inserts
  • Returnable Dunnage
  • Protective Packaging
  • Building Materials
  • Anti-Skid Pads
  • Gaskets
  • Seals

Stephenson & Lawyer fabricates various rubber and PVC products for use in the automotive, appliance, HVAC, construction and industrial markets.

Rubber

We have the ability to take the rubber in bun form and split or sheet it, apply an adhesive backing and die cut or water jet the final shape.

PVC

PVC foam is cast to thickness and does not require skiving. It can be supplied with or without an adhesive backing, die cut, water jet cut and as slit rolls on individual cores or spools.

Whether to use a Neoprene, EPDM, ECH or a blended rubber would depend on the application, environment or function of the part.

Volara®

A fine celled, irradiation crosslinked foam that is extruded to thickness and produced in rolls. Volara is nontoxic and contains no CFC, HCFC or hydrocarbon blowing agents. It is available in continuous rolls, laminated sheets or fabricated parts.

Volara
Applications include transdermal patches, surgical drapes, medical packaging, gasketing, sealing, floatation, anti-rattle pads, insulation, floor underlayment. Available in 2# to 12# densities and black and white colors. Special colors can be provided in volume applications. Also available is Volextra, a special version of Volara with extrusion coatings for added durability and aesthetics.

Minicel®

An extremely fine celled, chemically crosslinked foam that is produced in bun form and is ideal for applications that require thicker foam. Minicel is nontoxic, and contains no CFC, HCFC or hydrocarbon blowing agents. It is available in buns, sheets or fabricated parts.

Minicel
Due to its soft smooth feel, it is ideally suited for cushion packaging of easily scratched "Class A" finished products. Also, gasketing, floatation, anti-skid pads, thermal insulation, specialized packaging. Many grades and colors available in densities from 1.5 to 10 pounds per cubic foot.

Ethafoam®

A non-crosslinked polyethylene, also considered closed cell polyolefin foam, and is manufactured by Dow. Ethafoam polyethylene offers excellent strength, resistance to creep under load, vibration and shock absorbency and water resistance characteristics.

Ethafoam is produced with Dow's patented Rapid Release manufacturing process. This process technology incorporates a patented CFC and HCFC free blowing agent system and an accelerated curing system that reduces residual blowing agents to trace amounts.

Ethafoam
Ethafoam polyethylene foam is also reusable and completely recyclable because it is made out of non-crosslinked polyethylene. Excellent chemical resistance. Applications include gasketing, sealing, case inserts, parts separators, returnable dunnage, protective packaging, log home chinking, lifejackets. Available in 1.2# to 9# densities. Standard color is black and natural.

Rubber & PVC

Closed cell Neoprene, EPDM, ECH, Nitrile, PVC and various blends are available. Rubber is available in densities ranging from 4 pcf to 20 pcf and durometers from 15 to 80 on the Shore 00 scale. PVC foams range in density from 6 pcf to 25 pcf and durometers from 8 to 90.

Rubber & PVC
These products are used in a wide variety of markets for gaskets, seals, and vibration dampening applications.
